Information for Reading Residents  

The Reading Town Clerks Office is open
Monday through Wednesday 8am-4 pm.  Thursdays 7:30am-4pm. Closed Friday       


The Town Clerk &Treasurer's Office, the Lister's Office and the U.S. Post Office are located at
Robinson Hall (Town Hall) which is at the intersection of
VT Rt. 106 and Tyson Road.


Town Reports are always available in the Town Clerk's office and on the website.

Reading Annual Town Meeting is held the Saturday before the first Tuesday in March at the Reading Elementary School
multi-purpose room.

Register to vote on the Wednesday before an election.

Animal Registration

Vermont Law requires all dogs to be registered each year by April 1st.  Dogs under the age of 2 must have had a valid rabies vaccination within 12 months.  Dogs 2 years and older must have a  valid shot within 24 months.  These rabies certificates as well as spaying and neutering certificates will be kept on file for the life of the dog.

Fee: Males/Females­ $15.00

Neutered: $11.00

New Dog after 10/1: Fee is 1/2 of the regular fee

Replacement tag: $1.00    

Licenses after 4/1 add late fee: $2.00 if neutered, $4.00 if not.

 Puppies up to 6 months of age, as well as newly adopted dogs must be registered within 30 days.

$4.00 per license shall be collected for the purpose of funding the spaying/neutering program.  $3.00 per license shall be collected for the State of Vermont rabies control program.

Questions regarding building permits?

Permits are required prior to any building construction, addition, alteration or change of use. Applications are available from the Town Clerk or the Zoning Administrator. The Zoning Ordinance and Zoning application are located at Town Clerks Office or on our website under Town Government/ Zoning/ Permits  

 Have Garbage or Recycling?

Reading Residents use the Weathersfield Transfer Station for recycling and trash disposal. Details of recycling and refuse regulations and associated fees are available at the Town Clerk's office or on Bulletin Board in The Town Hall.
Compactor punch cards can be purchased at Downers Corner Store or The Reading Town Clerks Office; $25.00 for a 10 punch card and $12.50 for a 5 punch card. 
A Permit sticker is required and has to be picked up at the Reading Town Clerks Office or Weathersfield Town Office. 
The first sticker is free for home owners the 2nd one is $5.00 and $5.00 for renters.
The Transfer Station is located at the intersection of VT Rt. 106 and Amsden School Rd. in Weathersfield; the hours of operation are Wednesday 12:00-5:00 p.m., Saturday 7:00-4:00 and Sunday 12:00-4:00 p.m.
